Our Kinsman-Redeemer

"The man is a close relative of ours, one of our redeemers.” (Ruth 2:20)

As the kinsman-redeemer of Naomi and Ruth, it was Boaz's responsibility to redeem them from their impoverish condition. Boaz chose to carry out that responsibility for the love of Ruth. And so our Lord Jesus redeemed us. He was not ashamed to be called our brother (Hebrews 2:11), and as our kinsman to then redeem us from our impoverish state. Indeed, upon the cross he not only took upon himself our debts (sins) but exchanged them for his riches (righteousness). He who was rich became poor that we might become rich. And because he humbled himself thus, his Father raises him above all so that every knee shall bow before him.
